Helloooooooo...

Hello, Everybody!

I know it has been a while since you've heard the latest from my corner of the book world. The reality is that I haven't made time to stop and fill you guys in on the latest! Here's to doing better and posting more in March. :)

A look into January and February's life:

Coffee time with my GSP brother at Java Station after a
TSC Chamber of Commerce Board Meeting
2016's most read blog posts were counted down ! Thanks for reading& sharing :)

Have you ever noticed that you look at your smartphone to see what time it is and next thing you know you are scrolling through timelines, photos, and apps? I might be the only one! I found that wearing a watch to check the time keeps me away from useless smartphone time.
Grabbed some fresh time pieces with
butterflies of course!
Enjoyed a lovely February brunch with
PBP's featured author a.k.a. Momma, and a few of my sisters
at The Cellar in Blairsville, GA
Finally, a LOVEly Valentine's Day party with parents, brother, sisters, and nephews was a blast! It was cool to take a day that is usually devoted to couples and simply celebrate the people in my life that I love. Mom and everyone went al out with FOOD and hearts everywhere. I had so much fun celebrating LOVE.

I also repainted my office space a nice light purple/lavender in January.

Well, that's a brief overview of my last couple of months from my corner of the book world. I am currently in the editing process of project Through the Storms. Stephanie Ayers is a big part of the current editing process. We are currently making sure the story flows, an important part of editing and another step towards getting it to readers around the globe!

Butterfly Journey

Hello, Everybody!

As I was on the way home from running errands today, a song came on from the shuffle of my handpicked playlist. The song was "Butterfly" sung by Tracy Lawrence.

"Butterfly" lyrics

"Butterfly" lyrics

Inspired by all things butterfly, I was reminded of the butterfly journey that I am a part of. I am in the middle of editing PBP's next publishing project. Right now the story is exactly that. It is a story. It is my job to turn it into a book. A book that many can enjoy and draw inspiration and encouragement from. The story is currently in caterpillar form and with editing, proofreading, formatting, designing, and marketing, it is becoming a butterfly in the book world.

Love, Faith, and Trust in God: 9/11 Remembrance

Hello, Everybody!

As you all know, yesterday marked the fifteen year anniversary of remembrance on September 11, 2001. As my family and I were watching tributes and different stories of the tragic day, we came across the Palombo family's story shared by Anderson Cooper.

The Palombo family struck me in a few ways not just one. For starters, like my family, there are ten children in their family. What has happened to them over the last several years is very similar to the children in 'Their Inheritance', the book I didn't write but did publish three years ago this month. The Palombo's father was a firefighter who lost his life while courageously and faithfully doing his job on September 11, 2001. Eight years later, after a four year battle with cancer, their mother passed away. The children decided to stay together and raise each other. Their parents' love, faith, and values have carried them this far.

Take a couple of minutes out of your day to watch this video of the Palombo's family. Be blessed by their testimony. I have nothing to add to this incredible testimony of faith and love. I hope that the Palombo family inspires you like they have me on this fifteen year anniversary of their father's passing.

I am working on sending this awesome family a copy of 'Their Inheritance'. If you are reading this and know any of the 'Palombo 10', please contact me!

My prayers and thoughts are with every family who lost loved ones on the tragic September 11, 2001. I will never forget.

 Hello, Everyone!

This June makes six years since I started Purple Butterfly Pages. I realize the huge blessing it is to be able to be a young American woman and have my own business. Thankful for the individuals who fought for my rights as a human, as a woman, and as an American.

The gift of every day is not guaranteed. I am continuously determined to use my abilities in whatever way God needs to use me to impact readers', fans', and supporters' lives. A big thank you to all of you for reading a story written by Stephanie Townsend Ayers and thank her for continuing to write (yes, more stories are coming).

Toccoa Tuesday: Java Station

Hello, Everybody!

My corner of the book world is a bit soggy today. It is one of those droopy rainy Tuesdays in Toccoa, Georgia making this "Toccoa Tuesday" all about my local coffee shop! I am so thankful that my corner of the book world has a fantastic coffee shop: Java Station. After all, what better pair than coffee shop and a book publisher, right?!
An old gas station was remodeled to become
the home of Java Station & Cafe.

So, Toccoa does not have a Dunkin Donuts, a Starbucks, or any super coffee shop chain; however, Toccoa does have a coffee shop! I like to think of the Java Station as a pivotal meeting place in the community. The Java Station is a host to parties, meetings, dates, networking, study groups, etc...

About a year ago, the Java Station expanded their kitchen services. Now, they serve a variety of sandwiches, salads, burgers, and an occasional grilled sandwich.  It has been nice to see the kitchen grow into producing full entree's at dinner time. Delicious!

Hot Drinks on a cold day!
The food and drinks are tasty, healthy, and original. The chefs do wonderful jobs in the kitchen! The baristas are in a class of their own. I stop in to the Java Station most every week. Most of the time I am accompanied by my younger brother. He has special needs and has been working to improve his social skills by ordering a drink for himself. The baristas are kind enough to not rush him when ordering. Instead, they treat him respectfully letting him get his order in. If my brother forgets to ask for the drink sugar free, the barista asks him if he would like the ordered drink sugar free. It is the extra step that counts. A friendly greeting when arriving and departing makes the Java Station & Cafe just the right fit for Toccoa, Georgia. Also, the background music is always something different. Sometimes it is classical music or 70's classic rock hits and everything in between.

I feel like it is cliche to say that coffee or hot tea and a good book is all you need on a rainy day, but come on. Who craves something hot to drink on a cold and rainy winter day? I know I do! Go download Their Inheritance today to read with your cup of coffee or hot tea, whichever you fancy. :)

Believe.

Yesteryear's Winter

Hello, Everybody!

I am at my desk listening to the radio as rain falls on the tin roof sings in the background. I am awaiting the snow side of 2016 winter storm Jonas. I am a bit of a weather nerd. The power that God put into the weather fascinates me so much. As I was busy preparing for some winter weather this weekend, I was thinking back a little bit. Ok, a lot back, to the late 1800's. What were their winters like?

Winter has not changed that much over time, but there have been changes to society's knowledge and preparation of winter weather. Could you imagine going to bed with  grey skies above and then waking up to head to work or hang out the wash and finding a foot or more of snow; or, watching an afternoon snowfall turn into a week-long blizzard? Winter happened yesteryear just as it is happening today. They were more dependent on the Farmer's Almanac and weather patterns and we are more dependent on The Weather Channel and our local meteorologists to tell us when to expect bad weather. They had little time to prepare their lives for the disruptions that a winter storm brings. Today, meteorologists work to inform citizens of severe weather weeks in advance.

Back then, the families had very little time before a blizzard hit to get their livestock taken care of, food from the cellar, trees chopped for firewood, and few had healthy winter clothing to protect them from the bitter cold temperatures that accompanied big snowfalls and ice storms. In preparation for winter weather on its way today, I made a pot of chili, my younger sisters made a batch of cookies and Momma made a gnocchi and potato soup. Daddy made the grocery store stop for bread and milk....we will not starve this weekend! All the food can be heated over the grill. :) I stocked up on batteries for my radio/cd player. Yes, I still listen to am/fm radio and prefer to own CDs rather than digital music. That discussion is for another blog! SO, I am feeling as prepared for winter storm Jonas as a northeast Georgian can be.

If you are not in the path of 2016 winter storm Jonas, enjoy your winter weekend and make the most of it! To everyone in the path of winter storm Jonas, make the most of it. Embrace the magical snowfall and the powerful layered ice. If you lose electricity, embrace the unplugged pause. It is not always a bad thing to have to reschedule the weekend's plans. Use the "unplugged" winter storm time to get some work done or items crossed off your "to-do" list. There is no time like the present. Everyone, have a safe weekend! Share your wintery pix with me and other readers on my Facebook page: Purple Butterfly Pages! I want to see some snow. I will share my winter storm pix in my next post.

Believe.

How Lucky is 13?

Hello, Everybody!

Hoping the first thirteen days of this new year is treating you all well. So far, my 2016 has been about refreshment. I have been exploring different avenues of creativity outside of the book world. By spreading the creativity around, I have found more inspiration to use for my book world! I grew up watching my Momma sew by hand and on her sewing machine. I have made it a personal goal for the new year to create more of my own closet items and sew more gifts. How are you coming along with your goals for the new year? Is anybody trying to sew more?! Have you had any luck with your own sewing? I would love to know your tricks!

Speaking of luck...

I am wondering how many Americans feel lucky today and will venture out to their local convenience store or gas station and buy a Powerball lottery ticket. Do you feel lucky? As a publisher, I am thinking how many books the current jackpot could buy! A couple of books could be purchased I am sure. Have you asked yourself what you would do with the estimated $1.4 billion Powerball jackpot (if you are playing)?

Losers

What about when you don't win any money from the historic lottery drawing? Would you still be able to call yourself a winner? I believe everyone can...if you are grateful for what you already have. If you choose gratefulness over greediness, you will be a happy loser! Be happy for the winner (if there is one)! Make the most of life with what you have. Strive to be grateful for what you have as you work to gain more. Someone who chooses to be grateful instead of greedy is a winner in my book!

Believe.

Best of luck on this thirteenth day of January! You have what it takes to accomplish whatever you set out to do today.

Thankfulness

Hello, Everybody!

Thank you for reading my blog. Last week seemed to be a dark week in the world. I appreciate you all taking time to read my thoughts there. As I begin to blog more frequently than once a month, the topics will be changing. However, I aim to continue to keep my blog professionally oriented with a touch of personal. As I sit here with my younger siblings about to watch 'Home Alone', I want to share what I am up to in this week of gratefulness. :)

Their Inheritance's Thanksgiving

As the Williams children prepared for their first Thanksgiving holiday since their parents' death, the children tried to make their Thanksgiving the same as it was celebrated when their parents were alive.    James, Alexandra, Christine, and Lee spent Thanksgiving with their friends, the Unruhs.
Excerpts
from Purple Butterfly Publications' ebook, Their Inheritan

My Thanksgiving

I usually spend the week of Thanksgiving in the mountains with my family. We eat too much, catch up on naps and our visiting relatives' lives, and we start watching our favorite Christmas movies. The Thanksgiving Day meal changes every year. The 2015 Thanksgiving Day meal will consists of stewed chicken; Sweet Potato Fluff (my great-grandmother's recipe) which is an annual Thanksgiving Day staple; green beans (not in the casserole form); and homemade baked corn bread. Can you say yummy?! After we eat, we nap or watch a movie before getting ready to go to A to Z Auctions' annual Thanksgiving Day Auction. For the past few years, A to Z Auctions has held an auction on Thanksgiving night in Hiawassee, Georgia. This auction is different from their other auctions as they auction off more toys and Christmas gift options than they do at the regular auctions. They also start the night off with a large empty toy box sitting against one wall. Throughout the night, bidders can buy the toys and put them in the toy box. The toy box contents are distributed where they are needed throughout the local communities. I love how every Thanksgiving auction the toy box ends up overflowing! The community and bidders really come together and remind each other of what Christmas is all about: the gift of love! The auction lasts pretty late, and I skip on the Black Friday shopping the next day. I do support small business Saturday! I encourage you to do the same.

Small Business Saturday

Make it fun! Take the Small Business Saturday to get out and explore your town as if you were a visiting tourist. Go into shops that you don't shop in very often. Show your support for the small businesses in America. Whether it is your small town or big city, take fun family or solo photos in the stores and when you share your photos online, tag the stores! Business owners love to see who is enjoying their place of business. If you shop small with PBPages and download Their Inheritance, tag us! @PBPages or #TheirInheritance #PBP #ShopSmall
Thanks!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I hope you all have a fun, pleasant, and blessed Thanksgiving! Whether you are spending the holiday with family; friends; yourself; or with strangers, I pray you find something to be thankful for.

I am grateful for you all reading this blog, being a patron of Purple Butterfly Pages, and for the supporters of Purple Butterfly Publications. I am blessed with a job that I enjoy everyday!

Guest Blogger: Stephanie Townsend Ayers, Author of 'Their Inheritance'

As many of you know, April is Child Abuse Awareness month. I was invited by Ms. Ayers, my publisher, to guest blog this month for Purple Butterfly Pages. This invitation comes, unfortunately, because I have a long history with the cause for this month. My husband and I were foster parents for fifteen years to over sixty children, ages ranging from newborn to 17-years-old.

Our home was a safe haven for over sixty children throughout the years. Over three dozen pre-teen and teenagers came through our door. These were not orphans without parents or family. These were children without a safe environment with either family or family friend.

Can you imagine not feeling safe -physically or mentally- in your own parents’ home or any of your extended family’s home either? Can you think of a time when your parent or parents chose to buy alcohol or drugs instead of buying you food? Or a time when your mother offered your eight-year-old body to a stranger in exchange for some drugs for herself? Can you imagine going to school wearing the same filthy clothes for weeks, or without eating any food since leaving school the day before, having to hide the bruises or cuts left on you from the beating the night before? Can you imagine being nine-years-old and dreading the night because you knew what would happen when your Daddy, Uncle, or brother would come to tuck you in at bedtime? Can you imagine- instead of playing tag outside with your friends, you play skating by sliding across the empty vials and syringes scattered so thickly over your living room floor? Can you imagine being five-years-old and rolling marijuana joints for your parent and hoping it will get you that one chance at a word of praise?

In the latter years of our foster parent journey, we took special training and were educated so that we could open our homes to medically fragile and/or drug addicted infants. There were very few homes educated or equipped to handle the special needs of these babies, yet the demand for such homes was great. Sadly, our home was needed for over twenty of these such abused babies. Taking drugs and/or drinking alcohol while pregnant is child abuse. That is not up for discussion or debate. We have witnessed the results first hand and can attest to the reality of the facts. I have held too many babies in my arms as they screamed, not cried- a shrill anguished scream, as they suffered in physical pain for hours, for days, for weeks, and for months. Our family (thank goodness for being a large family) took turns, in two hour shifts, walking the floors day in and day out, sun up to sun rise, trying to soothe and comfort each baby. With each and every drug-addicted baby born there are physical therapies, occupational therapies, speech therapies, massage therapies, orthopedic therapies, neurological therapies, and gastrointestinal therapies. There are babies so addicted to crack or cocaine that they cannot relax or sleep. By ‘not relaxing’, I mean that their muscles are so tight/tense that their bodies are in a tight ball and cannot stretch their legs and arms-that trying to change a diaper can break their leg and so you have to take the time to relax each leg and hip muscle just to move it which can take twenty to thirty minutes each time! Their skin is so sensitive to touch that even the softest of material hurts them. Then there are barbiturate addicted babies that are so relaxed that they forget to breath and their hearts ‘forget’ to beat. Those babies have to wear monitors twenty-four hours a day. When the monitor alerts you, you have jump and scramble to stimulate them immediately or that baby will die!

Every single child that entered our home through the foster system suffered from the lack of love and the abundance of fear. We have had two-year-olds that come into our home and not know how to be hugged or how to hug. We know the healing power of a loving hug and of the healthy appropriate human touch, but these children do not. We have had too many children, even as young as four-years-old, that would steal food and hide it under their pillow, in the back of a drawer or closet, or even bury it. They would not eat it, but hoard it. For you see, they had known hunger. True hunger. They fear the day when our bountiful table will no longer be before them. They do not understand that they are stealing or that the food will spoil. All they know is that they have been hungry too many times before and may be hungry again. We have had helpless infants come into our home that were extremely under weight due to not being fed. Can you imagine not feeding your crying begging helpless infant simply because you wanted to get high? or because your boyfriend wanted your attention instead? or because you just did not care enough to feed him or her? Can you comprehend any of those levels of hunger- physical hunger and the emotional hunger?

These are just a few life experiences that we heard or witnessed from the children that came into our home through the social services system of our local communities. These are not one-in-a-million-Lifetime-movie scenarios. These are the realities that are occurring every single minute of every single day in every single city in our own country. The United States of America. Well, America, we need to all unite and protect our children. Our country’s future is its children.

As citizen of this world, we need to make ourselves aware of all children. You must start by being educated. Find your local child abuse center, such as our local Power House for Kids, and contact them about community child abuse awareness classes. If your small town does not offer this type of class, then help organize a class through a larger town’s resources. If you suspect abuse of any form, then get involved. Report any suspension to your local authorities. Also, if you see a pregnant woman abusing herself, then contact authorities for the unborn child’s sake as well as the mother’s. We should encourage the education about the damage of intrauterine exposure to drugs and alcohol to our teens as well as prenatal classes through our free health clinic and welfare systems. Sex education classes, as well as prenatal courses, need to include the facts about all the harm abusing the mother’s body can do to the unborn babies. As school teachers, Sunday school teachers, babysitters, community workers, church leaders, neighbors, aunts, cousins, nurses, doctors, waitresses, customer service workers, policemen and women, firemen and women, attorneys, ministers, writers, readers, coaches, athletes, EVERYONE- we all need to stop the abuse.  We must shed light onto this dark subject. Nothing can be fixed if you do not know it is broken. So make yourself and those around you aware of the signs of abuse. Listen for the words AND watch for the actions and reactions of the children as well as the abusers so that we can stop the abuse and start protecting our world’s future.
I believe that no child should feel unloved or unwanted. I have made it my passion that any and every child I ever encounter will feel loved and appreciated even if it is for a fleeting encounter. One never knows what a kind loving word could mean to child. Make a difference, whether big or small, with each child you meet, you pass, or with whom  the opportunity to interact occurs.

Every child deserves to be loved. Show them love....
Stop the abuse.

Make a Difference in America's Future: Be Aware

Hey everybody!

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. This is a cause that is close to my heart. I want to share with you my experience with our countries’ abused children. My own parents were foster parents, thus making me a foster sister, to many abused children over a fifteen year period.  For most of those years, our foster home specialized in extreme cases of physical and sexual abuse toddler and infants under the age of four-years-old. These children did not know the first thing about being loved. It was my privilege to be a small part of introducing love and kindness into their broken young lives.

I know that none of us like to think about innocent children of any age being mentally, sexually, or physically abused. Yet we must face the facts in we are to change them. The reality is that there are children abused. Child abuse occurs at every socioeconomic level, across ethnic and cultural lines, within all religions and at all levels of education. More than four children die every day as a result of child abuse. This is why community supported organizations like the Power House for Kids, located in Stephens county Georgia, are so important to our big cities and small towns.

The Power House for Kids was established in 2002 as a Child Advocacy Center serving kids in Habersham, Rabun and Stephens Counties (Georgia) who are alleged victims of abuse. Power House for Kids offers a child-friendly environment for a child and non-offending caregiver to tell his/her story of abuse and/or neglect to trained professionals and to receive the services necessary to reduce trauma to the child. Powerhouse for Kids is a child advocate throughout any legal proceedings.

“Child abuse does not go away, but 90 percent of child abuse is preventable.” –Karen Adams

I am really excited to announce that Purple Butterfly Pages IS A SPONSOR IN THE 3rd Annual Power House for Kids 1K/5K/10K happening May 10, 2014!! Representing my company, I will be running in the 5k!!! I have been trying to get in running shape. Haha! For motivation, I use the memories of all those innocent battered children that came through our door. I am REALLY looking forward to this event supporting the fight AGAINST child abuse.

Pictured above: the front of the Historic Stephens County Courthouse. There are 264 pinwheels; each representing a case of child abuse in 2013 which occurred in Stephens, Habersham and Rabun Counties (Georgia).

I believe it is our responsibility as neighbors/citizens/human beings to report any suspected child abuse. What's Stopping You???

Hey!

Hope the week is going well for you so far.
While washing dishes this morning after a yum breakfast of pancakes and turkey bacon, riskiness came to mind. Yes, very odd thought for washing dishes. Probably thought about it because I was risking getting the electric outlet wet when washing the electric griddle. ANYWAYS, it got me to thinking the risks I have taken in life and the ones I have NOT taken...but I think you should focus more on what you have done and not what you should have done. Learn and move on!

“Why not go out on a limb? That's where the fruit is.” - Will Rogers

Growing up I was not much of a risk taker at all (I left that up to other siblings), but when I turned eighteen something clicked. I realized the teen years were not going to last forever and the risk taking needed to be stepped up! I started college with no idea, what I'd be doing when it was over. The next year, a few days after my nineteenth birthday and a few months after I had started college, the idea of Purple Butterfly Pages was alive.

THE BIGGEST RISK I HAVE EVER TAKEN.
I faced fears of inexperience, rejection, and failure. BUT I worked hard anyway making phone calls, meeting new people,  doing what I knew I could do and stretching myself to do what I knew I couldn't do.  It is very true, the saying, "No risk, no reward"! I have grown and continue to grow so much as a person, mentally and spiritually, learning so much from being the owner of Purple Butterfly Pages!
I encourage you to take a risk today. You NEVER know what you are capable of, so find out!

"Do not be too timid and squeamish. ... All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make, the better." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

What's stopping you?

Caitlin :)
