'Their Inheritance' Thursday

Hello, Everybody!

Today, I am introducing  you to a big part of my book world: Their Inheritance. Many of you may already know about and have read my first ebook publication, Their Inheritance, but I am going to be [SPOTLIGHTING]  the ebook even more right here! Starting today, and every Thursday, I will be focusing on a different topic found in Their Inheritance. Download your copy from PBP, and we can discuss the different topics together!

First Synopsis

It is the winter of 1889. Seventeen-year-old James and sixteen-year-old Alexandra Williams have lost both their parents to illness. James and Alexandra are left to raise their two younger siblings while mourning and trying to manage the family farm. 
Through trials and triumphs, the children face their inheritance with the values their parents taught them and their personal faith.

Filling the Gap

Hello, everyone!

If you are like me, you are kind of scooting out of a summer schedule and getting into a better routine for the next season of the year. As summer drifts away, I wanted to blog about the gap between the generation of students and their parents and grandparents and how Their Inheritance can help bridge that gap.

Students,

I hope you all are settling into your new school routines and adjusting well to your new schedules. Whether you are in middle school; high school; college; or grad school, starting the next chapter tends to pull you away from your priorities and focus away from your family and onto your future in the work force. Don't forget to make time for your parents!

Parents,

as your student or students head off to a new school, keep in mind that they know that you are still at home and that wherever you are will always be "home". Find new ways to connect with your "student". For instance, reading.

Grandparents,

students may be spending more time with their friends or at their after school jobs and less time with you. This does not mean that your grandchild loves you any less. Maybe you can join in on the reading with your child and your grandchild!

The Gap

When different generations read Their Inheritance it opens up a channel of communication within the generation gaps of your family. In Their Inheritance we see the impact Charles and Grace Williams had on their children, James, Alexandra, Christine, and Lee. The elder members of the community helped the Williams children in the wake of their parents' death. The Williams teens, James and Alexandra, had to step up and fulfill their parents' responsibilities.

God was with them all, every generation, through everything they went through. Nobody was alone.

Remember that as you go into this new season and school year!

Fill in the generation gap by reading the same book. Of course, I suggest Their Inheritance ebook! While reading Their Inheritance you see each generation and their struggles and how they all help each other with those struggles. So, here is to a great school year to all generations involved in the success of each student in our lives.

Mrs. Dianne Lawson

Hello Everyone!

I had a different post drafted out for July. However, I learned of the passing of a friend this week. I want to share about someone who inspired me as a friend and business woman. 

I'd like to this time to share about a woman who supported and inspired me when I started Purple Butterfly Pages, Mrs. Dianne Lawson.

I met Mrs. Dianne in 2007 when my family opened a British antique store in downtown Toccoa, GA. Mrs. Dianne owned Dream Giver's Art Gallery which was located a few stores down from ours. I was fifteen-years-old at the time and I loved browsing through her store and admiring the different art forms from the local artists. Mrs. Dianne would usually have a background story to tell me about the artists.

A couple of years later, when I needed to interview local entrepreneurs for a college assignment, Mrs. Dianne was happy to help and graciously answered my questions. Her advice to me was to always listen to my customers' needs. When I started PBPages at the beginning of school, she was excited for me and so supportive! Even after the British antique store closed and Dream Giver's Art Gallery relocated to another location in Toccoa, I still visited with her there. Mrs. Dianne kept a beautiful shop with a warm atmosphere! My parents gave me a beautiful sterling silver cross necklace from Dream Giver's Art Gallery as a gift when I graduated college. Mrs. Dianne would always ask about my family if they were not shopping with me and she would always want to know the latest with my business. She was a huge supporter of shopping local and supported many small businesses as well as mine.

Late last year, 2014, Mrs. Dianne closed Dream Giver's Art Gallery due to an illness. Other than a couple of emails, I haven't kept in touch since then. Mrs. Dianne has passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Mrs. Dianne could have chosen to ignore the teenagers who came into her store several years ago. Instead, she chose to listen to them, encourage them, and share her knowledge with them. I am so glad she gave me her time. I will miss our chats and cherish her advice. She was one of a kind.

     Rest in peace, Mrs. Dianne.

Hello, New Year!

Happy New Year and WELCOME 2015!

Hello everyone! I hope your year is off to a bright start. I want to share some of what I will be doing as Publisher at Purple Butterfly Publications this new year. My mission for Purple Butterfly Publications is to continue striving to produce and promote literature that inspires, comforts, and entertains readers worldwide. In 2015, I will continue working with Stephanie Townsend Ayers as she is writing her current novel with a working title of Through the Storms! More details on that later.

New This Year...

Since 2010, there have been near ten thousand visitors to www.PurpleButterflyPages.com! Starting this year, the Purple Butterfly Pages and Publications website will be updated weekly making it easier for readers worldwide to find book excerpts from my publications as well as stay informed and up to date with ongoing projects. This means that the website may be down at times during the first of the year, but no worries. I will let you all know when those few days come. I will be writing a Q & A blog sometime this year as well. I want to answer all of your questions about my small business, publishing, or publications! Email, post, message, or tweet questions to me as you think of them and I will make a compilation in a future blog post.  

Make the most of every day in the new year.

Last year, I was fortunate to be a part of my local Chamber of Commerce and attend several events. When I introduce myself as a Publisher, a lot of people's first reaction is to tell me about an author they know or about an idea for a book they want to write. Everyone says they don't have time to write or they don't think they are any good at writing. I love hearing book ideas from others and am inspired by the love of story telling and imaginations that we share! As a book publisher, authors and readers of all subjects are very important to me. I started something last year and I'd like to carry the idea over into 2015. I challenge you to encourage your family members, your children, your friends, and yourself to Write It Down. Whether you think a book idea or a poem is great or not, write it down! When you have something on your mind but you have no way of getting it out, write it down! If you have a story that your grandparent told you in your childhood, write it down! Nobody can ever read it if you don't write it down. Think about all of the knowledge you would not have if someone had not taken time to write it down...no bookstores, no libraries, no Bible, no schools, no museums, and the list goes on. So in 2015, I challenge you to Write It Down! Use the hashtag #WriteItDown to mark your progress online and to acknowledge the accepted challenge. The challenge starts today! Do you accept it?

Their Inheritance ebook has been read worldwide!

I am proud to say there were over 2000 copies of Their Inheritance read last year. I am ecstatic and inspired that an ebook that I published has been read worldwide reaching United Kingdom, France, Denmark, and Canada to name a few of the countries! I hope this ebook has and continues to inspire you on cloudy days, comfort you in times of grief, and encourage you when you need an extra push toward faith. You are never alone as God walks with you through every day in this new year!

Book Adventures This Summer

Hey everybody!

I hope everyone had a great summer! To those of you still living on "summer time"- count your blessings. 

I am wondering what books you read this summer?? A classic or a new author's works? Maybe even my first publication, Their Inheritance? What genre have you spent your summer delved into- suspense, sci-fi, or possibly fictional romance? 

I made it a personal goal this summer to get some reading done myself! It happened to be the day of Maya Angelou's death that I decided to visit my local library. I browsed the shelves looking for a novel into which I could really dive. I came across Ms. Maya Angelou's works. After reading several dust covers, I decided to check out Gather Together In My Name. Whether it was in between work, times at the lake, or movies, with friends or with family, I became lost in Maya Angelou's life's struggles as a young single mother, daughter, granddaughter, and sister. Also, how she never fit in to society's rules- I was drawn in. The woman was a genius with ink and paper! She has inspired me to steadfastly continue my goal of reading at a steady pace throughout the year. I will let you all know what and when I finish the next book!

2014: Adventures Part One

Hey everybody!

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, a 2014 recap:

January and February were months of transitioning and growth for me. They were all about transitioning from splitting my time between college and business to utilizing all of my time into my business, Purple Butterfly Publications.  Time is a gift that is shared with others. I have learned that fact during my transitioning time. I found that I can not control everything, but I am firm in my belief that God is in full control of all things.

I am going to call March 2014 “Milestone March”. With a desire to be more involved in my community and to learn from other local business owners, I joined the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce as a business owner of Purple Butterfly Pages. Joining the Chamber of Commerce had been a professional goal of mine since 2010. Check mark: Goal reached!

In April, I was blessed to be able to be a sponsor of the Power House for Kids 3^rd Annual Race. The race raised funds and awareness for the child advocacy center which serves  families in Habersham, Rabun, and Stephens counties in northeast Georgia. Child abuse in your community affects you whether you know it or not. Please be informed on how you can help YOUR community in the fight against child abuse today. 

May was the actual race day. I had an absolute blast joining over 100 runners for the 5K run in support of the Power House for Kids! A race with perfect weather, a serene location, and an organized coordination, all led to bounding success! My personal goal was to FINISH the race no matter how long it took me. I finished in roughly thirty-seven minutes and without injury. Yeah! Next year, Purple Butterfly Pages will have a FULL TEAM participating in the 4^th annual Power House for Kids Race! 

June has found me counting the many blessings the year has brought me so far (including another birthday).

The Importance of My Chamber of Commerce

Hey everybody!

Purple Butterfly Pages reached an exciting milestone this week!

Back in 2010 at the beginning of my college journey, I was given an assignment by my small business class instructor to list and explain different ways to network from the view point of a business owner. This assignment was particularly inspiring to me as I had just begun my own small business! I began my list with a goal to join the local Chamber of Commerce. I detailed that as a grass-root sole proprietor business, I was not in a position to join the Chamber at the time. 

Becoming a member of one’s local Chamber of Commerce would provide any business with networking opportunities, offer support and resources for the business, and provide a network of support from other local business owners. Becoming a member of the Chamber of Commerce was especially important to me, even as an individual member prior to joining as a business owner. 

My connection to my local Chamber of Commerce began in 2007 when I had just turned sixteen-years-old. I was an intern at the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce while my uncle, being a British antique store owner in the historic downtown area, was a member. After my internship of almost one year, I finished high school with plans to attend college. I always knew I would go to college, but had not yet quite figured out my major. As I thought more and more about a major, I remembered the work and all the experiences that I had been exposed to at the Chamber of Commerce and knew that I wanted to pursue a degree in business. I signed up for classes majoring in Applied Business Technology. I went to work with my studies and a few months later an opportunity came before me. I took the risk and started my own business. 

Throughout my college experience, I held a student membership with the Chamber of Commerce. I did this to stay informed about and involved with my community and its businesses. After graduating college, with business growth at the forefront of my business plan, I knew I had to be more involved in my community and know the local business owners on a more professional level. This would also introduce my own business-that has now expanded- to my community on an entirely different level. 

So, on March 13, 2014, I joined the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce as a business owner!! 

Another goal on my list checked off!

Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce President, Wendi Bailey (whom I have known since I was a teen), shared my excitement as I met with her and completed the paperwork. The tradition at the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce is to ding a silver bell every time a new member joins the Chamber. It was a very exciting and proud moment when that bell rang for me as my business, Purple Butterfly Pages, joined my local Chamber of Commerce!

I am thankful to Chamber President, Wendi Bailey (pictured here on the right) and Executive Assistant, Vicky King (not pictured) for the knowledge they have shared with me over the years. I feel blessed to know these two professional women!
